Barry Greene, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Specializing in Bariatric Surgery, General Surgery and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
Dr. Greene is a Bariatric Surgeon with over 15 years of experience in advanced laparoscopic procedures. He is a graduate of the University of Miami Medical School and a Wright State University School of Medicine Surgical Residency where the Academy of Medicine honored him as the Outstanding Resident of 1990. He remained on faculty at Wright State University and Wright Patterson Air Force Base developing a Laparoscopic Program until 1992 when he transferred to Andrews Air Force Base. In 1994 he joined the private practice of Drs. Sandler & Weisbaum and continued to teach residents and surgeons laparoscopic techniques. Dr. Greene began performing bariatric surgery in 2001. He has been instrumental in the development of weight loss surgery programs at several area hospitals including Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, which was recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence in January 2007.
Linda McGavisk PA-C
Linda McGavisk MSHS, PA-C is certified by The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience from Cornell University and Master of Science in Health Sciences from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Linda previously worked in the areas of Internal Medicine and Family Practice, as well as Surgical Services, before joining AWLS in 2007. Linda serves as The Bariatric Program Director, coordinating clinical care at Dr. Greene’s office.
Latasha N. Baxter CRNP
Latasha N. Baxter, MSN, CRNP-A is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science in Nursing from the State University of New York at Buffalo and is a member of the American Association for Nurse Practitioners as well as Theta Sigma Tau, International Honor Society of Nursing. Prior to joining the team, Latasha worked as a Nurse Practitioner in the areas of General and Vascular Surgery as well as Interventional Radiology.
As the Bariatric Program Coordinator at Shady Grove, she works closely with the Bariatric surgeons to coordinate all phases of the peri-operative process to maintain exceptional patient care. As a bariatric patient, you will work closely with Latasha, from your first preoperative experience at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital onward, as we provide support and encouragement needed for long term success.
Latasha also serves as a Liaison to coordinate Bariatric care throughout the hospital to ensure program compliance and meet quality standards expected as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
Catherine Fore, RD,LDN
Catherine Fore, RD, LDN, CNSC brings almost 10 years of experience in clinical nutrition and dietetics to the Bariatric team, including 5 years as a nutrition support dietitian (CNSD) and 4 years as an outpatient dietitian, specializing in medical and surgical weight management. In her 7 years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Catherine worked in a variety of clinic settings, including infectious disease, cardiac rehabilitation, and otolaryngology. Catherine is a Certified Adult Weight Management Specialist with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Catherine earned undergraduate degrees in Health and Exercise Science from Furman University and Food Science and Nutrition from Clemson University. She completed her dietetic internship with Sodexo Health Care Services, including clinical rotations at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Areas of particular interest to Catherine are vitamin and mineral requirements accompanying bariatric surgery, especially thiamine, niacin, and copper. Catherine also enjoys assisting patients with meal planning and time management.
Michelle Gilman, LPN
Michelle C. Gilman, Licensed Practical Nurse and graduate of Career Network Institute in California. Michelle currently attends Indiana State University and is working towards her Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree.
